Our children’s rap album hit #1 on iTunes!

Published 24 days ago by Alexis Alexander

WOW! It’s been an exciting week for the Friendly Fables team as our first-ever collection of children’s rap songs, Rap-A-Long Volume #1, went to #1 on the iTunes children’s charts in Canada - an unexpected and completely humbling experience that has left us nearly speechless. A massive and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who bought the album, played it for their kids and supported us! We are blown away.

What started out as a book series inspired by #DadLife has led us somewhere new and exciting, and we’d love to share a little bit more about our journey to this day.

When Friendly Fables started holding live performances in bookstores, schools and daycare centres, we noticed that kids really gravitated toward the music - and the same thing was happening at home with our own kids. Watching groups of children connect with our songs inspired us to write more of them, and we quickly realized what an impact the music was having. Children were picking up on the lyrics and singing along, they were dancing and getting active, and they were enjoying a taste of hip-hop music without inappropriate language or inappropriate undertones - something a rap-loving millennial parent of toddlers can really get behind!

We also noticed that many students with autism and physical or intellectual disabilities were connecting with our songs in situations when verbal communication was challenging or limited. They’d dance if they were able, smile and have a great time with their teachers and peers. It was beautiful to see! This really moved us and solidified our passion for bringing our music and storytelling to elementary schools around Canada. Every child deserves a chance to laugh, sing and move to the music, however they are able.

And so it began - our journey to bring a clean, engaging, (mostly) wholesome collection of children’s rap songs to audiences everywhere. And we did it! It’s a huge accomplishment for our team and a dream come true - and it all began with some silly stories told by a loving dad.

We’re working on new songs already and will be tackling subjects like bullying and the environment along with our usual fun and silliness. Rap-A-Long Volume #2 won’t be far off...stay tuned to find out!

Thanks again for your support and for getting us to #1. What whaaaat!

Rap-A-Long Volume #1 is available on iTunes, Google Music, Spotify and in select stores. Look for CDs on sale at all live performances and events!
