The real story of Daizy’s Monster

Published about 1 year ago by Alexis Alexander

We’ve all had that pivotal childhood moment when we asked ourselves the same question: is there a monster under my bed? Maybe in your imagination, the closet is where the monster was lurking...or in the basement, under the stairs, even in that dark hallway between your bedroom and the bathroom (very inconvenient, that particular monster). Well, for Daizy the dog, the monster in her imagination was hiding in the backyard! What a fright.

Daizy’s Monster takes kids on a journey as she and her best dog companion, Zoey, chase shadows and discover what hides just out of sight. In the end, there’s nothing to be scared of at all! Just a wonderful outdoor space full of plants, trees and harmless creatures from nature.

Kids love this sweet, relatable story, and it’s close to author Alexis Alexander’s heart as well. Daizy and Zoey are his real life dogs! Just like in the story, they love to eat, sniff out food and cuddle up with their human family.

The real life Zoey recently tore her ACL, so Alexis and his family took her to their longtime vet at the Ajax Animal Hospital. This is a great facility that has provided exceptional care to many animals in our community, from guinea pigs to German Shepherds. They are wonderful caregivers and an amazing resource to pet owners in Durham Region!

When the Friendly Fables series was first launched, Ajax Animal Hospital was incredibly supportive. They set up a display of books in the waiting room, where they’re available for sale. Of course, Daizy’s Monster is front and centre!

We wanted to take a moment to thank Ajax Animal Hospital again for their amazing care of the real life Daizy and Zoey, and for their support of Friendly Fables. You guys are amazing and we appreciate all that you do!
