Thank you for helping us support SickKids!

Published 12 months ago by Alexis Alexander

These past few weeks have been incredible and we’ve got YOU to thank for it - our friends, readers and supporters across Canada and the U.S.

We’re not just talking about the success of the books - we’re talking about how you’ve helped us make a difference in the lives of children and their families by supporting our recent book drive for SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

SickKids is incredibly important to us and our family. We’ve talked about this on the blog and there’s even a book inspired by the hospital and their amazing care providers. As the holiday season approaches and the first year of Friendly Fables comes to an end, we decided to do something special to give back - and wow, how our friends stepped up to help make it happen!

Here’s where it all started: When our son was going for surgery at SickKids in 2017, he was given a welcome package. We thought it would be a really nice idea for children and their families if one day the welcome package could have book in it - just a little something that may make a child smile and laugh, or help them to be brave during a difficult time.

So with the help of our amazing printer Terry at Pint Size Productions, we set out to give the gift of reading to children at SickKids this holiday season.

We decided to donate 1000 copies of ‘Heroic Hospital Quest’ to the SickKids Foundation. This was our small way of saying thank you to The Hospital For Sick Children. We are happy to say our son is doing well now and as he grows up, he’ll learn how SickKids played a huge role in helping him in those early weeks and months of his life.

With the goal of raising more book donations for SickKids, we hosted an event at Coldstream Fine Art on November 22nd. It was truly a team effort and we wanted to say thank you to a few people for help making it all happen!

Jennifer Bassett of Bassett Events was instrumental in planning this event. Her expertise and enthusiasm was invaluable and we are so grateful. She also generously donated a portion of the night’s food, which was prepared by Sydney of Eatertainment. Thank you endlessly, Jennifer.

Thank you to Chris Shaw of Pandor Productions for being our emcee and keeping things running smoothly all night. You rock!

Thanks to Chris Crocker of Iconic Group for donating the large, illustrated Friendly Fables art prints that were auctioned off in support of SickKids. Chris we can’t thank you enough!

A big thanks for Dave “Brownsound” Baksh of Sum41 for donating an autographed jersey to our silent auction! Also thanks to Lisa Gray, owner of Sweet Woodruff, for the amazing donated floral pieces.

Drinks were supplied by Tim Holland of Dandurdand - the wine was amazing, so another big cheers to Tim for his support!

Kariv Oretsky offered use of his gallery, Coldstream Fine Art, for the event. It’s an amazing space and was the perfect setting for cocktails, candy and good times! Thank you so much, Kariv.

Additional books were donated to the hospital through the kind support of Gene Giordano Wealth Management, Esther Ewing and Jim Sylph, Chris Crocker, Leslie Logan, Susan Atkins and everyone who bought books during the event. THANK YOU, each and every one of you, for your amazing contribution to this great cause.

Thanks to the bloggers and members of the media who attended and supported the event!

Much love and gratitude to the incredible friends and family members who made donations, shared a glass of wine with us and made the night extra special.

Finally, we’d like to thank SickKids Foundation for allowing us to read to patients each month and bring our Friendly Fables stories in their world. Thank you to Brianne Fodey for getting this all started and to Susie Morphet, who has been wonderful and attended the event on behalf of the hospital.

We are proud to say over 1110 books were donated to the hospital on November 22nd!

Thank you, everyone, from the bottom of our hearts. We can’t wait to see what’s possible in 2019!
